Welcome home Sophie

Sophie has rung from Paris, on her way home from Africa. Her plane gets in at 10.30pm. We are waiting for all the news. So I got out the baking gear and made a cake. I havent done one for quite a while. I dont need the calories!! I had bought some lemon curd from a farmshop last week when in Suffolk. Its a sponge filled with lemon curd and has lemon icing and strawberries to finish it off.

I use the scales below to weigh the ingredients. These belonged to my parents-in-law when they had a little village shop. Can only weigh in pounds and ounces but I'm an old fashioned girl so can translate from grammes and kilos. Sarah says she makes the best scones if she uses these.

The cake picture is for Angel Jem. She wanted a gratuitous cake picture and this is probably the best she will get from me. Hope everyone is enjoying the sunshine.

The weather has been fabulous today. I'm afraid I havent got as much done as should have as I have been sitting and enjoying. Has summer come at last?

Thank you for commenting on my blog. You are most welcome back. :)I hope the cake was tasty! :)
I am sure that you deserve some calories occasionally. ;)
Your scale is charming.
I hope summer decided to stay at your place. :)
We have rain. But the weather forecast have promised us summer this coming weekend.
Enjoy the sun.

OK, it's a deal. I'll make the Bakewell Tarts if you make the yummy lemon cake with the strawberries on!
I'm going to bed now. I've got toothache. (That's all I need.) Won't get into a dentist before I come so I'm hoping that it will go away.
Can't wait to hear about Africa.
Love Jenny

Hi Mary,

I've been very good with my diet and laying off sweets but you have tempted me to gorge on something delectable! My goodness!

I'm glad summer has arrived for you. I don't mean to complain but it's been a long and hot summer so far...too hot and dry. But I'm a summer person and will fret when it leaves.

Have a nice reunion with Sophie! She'll be full of news.

That cake looks really yummy. And the scales look equally impressive. I hope you continue to enjoy lovely weather, unfortunately I can not say the same here, it is raining (again...) And just when I was planning to do some gardening.

Like you I need an excuse to bake (which I love to!), otherwise I eat it all alone and gain 10 pounds. :-)
Your delicious looking cake reminds me of the good old times when British Airways on North Atlantic flights used to serve tea high over Newfundland, with scones, lemon curd, whipped cream and strawberry jams. Those were the last vestiges of glorious travels, methinks (I'm afraid).

Delicious! I love lemon curd! Thank you for visiting my blog today! Welcome! I am adding you to my list of friends, too. I love England and have enjoyed reading blogs written by ladies there. My son lives over there and loves it. Blessings, Becky

Gratuitous cake picture very much appreciated. I have just embarked on a round of Rosemary Conley battles with my appetite so virtual cakes are the best!
