HELLO AUTUMN

Well the seasons seem to have changed. High winds and heavy rain. Has summer gone? Sarah, Jenny and I went to the quilt fair on Thursday and I am still recovering. Sarah has blogged about this but oh boy can elderly ladies push, shove and generally behave like a load of hooligans!! I have quite severe arthritis and was knocked into by a buxom lass of about 70 around my left shoulder, which is badly affected anyway, and since then its been really bad. Can't do what normally do, but am going for some physiotherapy this week so hope that helps. Slow typing with right hand only and can't use fork in left hand, can't knit and having trouble sleeping. I've finished moaning now.!!! Onto some of the lovlies I did get there. Fab material.

Here is some close up.
The quilts on display were wonderful.Works of art. Not sure if I would be brave enough for another adventure in the future. Some of the material will be going into a quilt for our bed. I also got some beautiful buttons. These are made in Africa under a fair trade agreement.

The Laura Ashley catalogue full of fantastic goodies beneath.

Last weekend we were in Shropshire and visited a village fair and carboot and got these goodies. A cheesedish for £2, displayed on my table runner Jenny made for me, and some old linens and bits of lace which were another couple of pounds.

Well I guess thats all for tonight. We have had the central heating for a couple of hours today!! Can't believe that we would even contemplate that in August. To all my friends in USA who are suffering with high temperatures hope it cools down soon and to all my friends in Europe who are cold and wet lets hope it will improve.

Mary, I love the cheesedish...coinkadinkly, bought one at the flea market today myself, cracker dish with a cheese center and glass cover...for 1 dollar...don't know what the rest of that lot there were thinking to let me snap it up like that! The materials are lovely, too. Had a bout with my shoulder last year (frozen shoulder syndrome) that came from a work injury...damn drunks do like to fight a lady cop don't you know! I still do all my exercises to keep it limber from when I had physio...don't want to go thru that again...talk about pain! Yes, my cats have their own bed, as well...they just prefer ours! Have a great day tomorrow...

Mary,

You weren't kidding! You turned your heat on? That's almost unbelievable - but, yes, I believe anything when weather is concerned.

"...but oh boy can elderly ladies push, shove and generally behave like a load of hooligans!" LOL! I'm sorry you got injured. The fabric is very pretty and I wonder if you feel it was worth getting pounded?

I hope you feel better real soon. And I also hope the sunshine warms your shoulders.

It is ever so cool and autumn-like here as well, a good fire in the fireplace is what i long for... You have bought some lovely fabrics, even though you got injured while doing it... I do feel sorry for you and hope that you will indeed feel better soon. Your cheese-dish is just beautiful.

I always go to the quilt show on a Sunday it is less crowded, lovely fabrics, I bought buttons beads and some nuno felt to dye, I had a quilt in the show and enjoyed seeing other peoples. Is`nt it great to get a bargain? I love the cheese dish, you were lucky.

Such lovely fabrics, and the cheese dish what a find!
While we had a bit of rain last night, the sun is up and shining again today. No autumn in the air here (I closed all my southern windows to keep the midday heat out).
I hope you are going to feel better soon!

Hi- Have just found your blog, it's lovely. I know just what you mean about the weather - how depressing is it to have to put the heating on in August!!!! Love those buttons you got, they are so pretty.

I always think that I will enjoy being an old lady precisely because it means I can push without people saying or looking askance, and if they do complain I can always blame it on the balance. I am sorry that you should have been injured though, and hope it's better soon.

I hope the physio helps Mary, I can't imagine how painful it must be.

Hi, Mary and Sarah, My quilt was the Owl and the Pussy Cat, not as good as those you show on your blog, I am new to quilting, I got good remarks from the judges, so I hope to make the improvement for next year. I am lucky because I dont have to travel far 20mins in the car from Coventry. I know what you mean about the train though I travelled to Liverpool(my youngest daughter lives there) and it was a Sat. footballers from Southhampton, I`d booked my seat how do you get a footy fan to get out of your seat??

Whooo! I've been in some situations like that, too! People pushing and shoving to be among the first. I'll never understand the rudeness - and ruthlessness - to be first. Didn't understand it as a kid and don't understand it now. It's one thing to politely and firmly stand up for it if it's your rightful place, but another to fight your way in.

Ok Ms Contrary, just to let you know, the search party leaves at dawn, so if you are not lost, please let us know and we can put up our wellies and take off our macks, and turn off the electric torches and go back to bed...just checkin'

Love that cheesesdish! And all the fabrics. Wonder why I love fabrics so much when I don't even know how to sew???
Hope your shoulder is feeling better soon! Next time, take an umbrella or a cane. That way you can just casually poke someone in the foot and swear it was an accident! (Just remember to really lean into it when you're doing the poking - it'll keep them from coming anywhere near you again! lol).

Some great finds there! Shame about the pushing but some women seem to become like things possessed when there's something they want!

Hope you're all better soon.
