Happier Days

Today we are going to be happy.I got some advice about washing the eiderdown that I bought about 2 years ago. It was always a bit "mucky" and I wasn't sure whether it would wash. Thanks to the advice from jessica daisy I washed it at 30 degrees and tumble dried it and then gave it a very good shake and it looks about 10 shades lighter. Thanks Jess it has a new lease of life. This is its close up and below is the whole thing. This is for all of you that love eiderdowns!!!

Sarah bought the October edition of Country Homes and Interiors and low and behold the dinning table, chairs and dresser that we have ordered are featured on the front cover. Hope they look as good in our room when they arrive. We are off tomorrow to order a new fire for this room. We have seen some cast iron vintage ones which I love but I want to be sure as they are so expensive and don't want to make a mistake.

On a different note I enrolled for a day school course for 10 weeks to do some basic craft things. I am really looking foward to it and all the others there were so enthusiastic I'm sure it will be fun.

Meanwhile I'll leave you with the 2 boys Dougal and Hamish keeping each other company!! Many thanks to all of you for your good wishes following Lucy's death.

Those names, Dougal and Hamish, made me giggle...

In ten weeks at a craft class, you should be able to post pictures of everything you learn! I can't wait!

The Eiderdown comforter is so gorgeous!!! Dougal and Hamish...I just love it but it's the Douglas blood that makes the names seem so noble and befitting the two lovely cats that are lucky enough to carry them! Glad you are getting back to old form! Did you listen to Terry this morning, isn't the boyo something?

I am so sad to hear about Lucy - you must be feeling so low. Dougal and Hamish are lovely - I love their names.

I also love your eiderdown - how pretty!

Let us know how you get on with your craft course - I have applied to join a sewing group which startd in October. My aim is to start a quilt and I think a group setting will keep me focused as well providing some lovely company.

Hi Mary,
Dougal and Hamish look really relaxed, but so sorry to hear about Lucy, so sad.
Your eiderdown is lovely. I've often looked at them, but always been worried about being able to wash them. Now I'll buy the next nice one I see. Noreen did buy one a couple of weeks ago for next to nothing and that has washed beautifully too.
Have a great weekend,
Margaret and Noreen at THY

So good you can take your eiderdown through the wash! I have been doing so for years and dry them in the dryer together with some clean tennisballs, which give the downs a workout and a lot of fluff.
Here in Austria it's so easy to get beautiful duvet covers, which I find very useful, and making your bed is easy with a shake of the whole thing, without having to run around the bed adjusting the flat sheet. ;-)

Ohh your so brave washing your eiderdown, I always take mine to my mums for her to wash for me so she can take full responsibilty when they go clumpy!!!

Just read about your poor lucy, Im so sorry sweetie, I know how hard it can be to lose one of your babies...

Thankyou for asking about my kittens, they are getting very big, very naughty and very good at hiding in places they shouldn't! I will post some for you to see.

The eiderdown looks fantastic and the cats are adorable. I'm still so bummed about Lucy, though. The poor thing. And poor you guys for having to say good-bye to her. I must be going soft in my old age. I mean, I've always FELT awful about losing pets, but NOW I'm actually SAYING I feel bad. (Too many years spent trying to be the "tough" one I guess). I just think of Lucy being ill and I feel so sad. The good thing is that she's not suffering now, is she? Oh, I'd better stop before you send a note to my aunt to have me certified as too soft and way too crazy! lol

hi Mary, next time put it in a single duvet and tie it, because some older ones split, fill the pump with feathers, the water will not drain, major problems! how do i know this, i washed one that split!!!!!!

Dearest Mary,
Thankyou for your kindness,I had an awful day yesterday ,words were said that will take a long time for me to forget.
I'll be ok,I think as I get older things just run deeper.
Hope you are feeling better too.

Your two boys look very happy! It's amazing how fresh eiderdowns can look after a wash, but it's always so scary when you wash them! Hope you enjoy your course and thanks for the birthday wishes

Your eiderdown looks absolutely gorgeous - I'm on a mission now to find one myself!

Mary, thought you would like to know, the little grey kitten we began calling Precious, got a home today. She was adopted by a young nurse, Hope Haithcock, who lost her own dear cat to old age the last week in August. She said the greatest tribute she could think of for Baby (her cat) was to bring in another and give it the love it deserved. I'm missing little Precious, but she (as we found out she was)is going to a fantastic home. I've known Hope since she was a child, so there are no worries!

Great suggestions on washing the eiderdown. I just bought an old one and am trying to get up the nerve to wash it. I will have to remember about the tennis balls, or tennis shoes.
